Methotrexate Treatment of Unruptured Ectopic Tubal Pregnacy : A Report of 4 Cases

Abstract
4 Subjects with unruptured tubal pregnancies of 6-9 weeks' duration were treated with our doses of intramuscular methotrexate(1.0mg/kg) followed by four doses of intramuscular leucovorin(0.1mg/kg). The diagnosis was established in all cases by
diagnostic laparoscopy following sonography and radioimmunoassay for serum beta-subunit of human chonioic gonadotropin. Subjects were followed weekly quantitative serum beta-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin radioimmunoassay and
ultrasonography.
The most abrupt response and most uncomplicated couses were experienced in the three subjects but one subject underwent salpingectomy following treatment due to hematocele. This preliminary experience suggests that methotrexate may be an
effective
alternative for the treatment of early ectopic pregnancy.
